Audio Storytelling Fellowship Info Session

Informational Session on NYC CME's Audio Storytelling Fellowship. What it is and how you can apply to join.

Description

The New York City Center for Media Education's Audio Storytelling Fellowship is a 30 Week long program for podcasters looking for education and support in producing their compelling podcast story. This program launching April 8, 2024 has limited seats open for applicants.

This info session will review the basics of what will be covered in the Audio Storytelling program, examples of the podcasts we're looking to support in this program, and how you can apply.

Who is the Audio Storytelling Program for?

Podcasters and those who want to enter the world of podcasting who have a compelling story to tell and:

  • Don't know how to get started making a podcast,
  • Don't have access to the equipment and resources to record and edit their podcast, AND/OR
  • Need support in creative and story development from professionals.

What kind of podcasts is the Audio Storytelling Program for?

Our focus in this program is storytelling, so we're not looking for talk or chat shows. We're looking for:

  • Community Stories: (like The Moth, Infamous: The Tekashi 6ix9ine Story, or Complex Subject: Pop Smoke)
  • Investigative Stories: (like Winds of Change, or Serial)
  • Narrative Fiction Stories: (like Case 63, or Quiet Part Loud)

30 Weeks is a long time for a class ...

The 30 Weeks of the program is actually broken into two phases:

Phase 1: Class Period - 6 Weeks

During this period you'll meet twice a week in the evenings to develop your story and learn and develop interview skills, research skills, recording skills, audio editing skills and more.

The outcome of this phase will be: a pilot or practice episode, draft scripts for your podcast season, and a production plan for your podcast season.

Phase 2: Mentorship and Production Period - 24 Weeks

This phase is focused on the production and post production of your podcast with continued support from your instructor and NYC CME staff.

During this period you will have remote check-in sessions every other week and optional labs to practice skills or get additional hands on support. You will also be assigned a podcasting professional as a mentor who you can reach out to for additional support.

The outcome of this phase will be: a complete season of your podcast plus a distribution and marketing plan for the podcast.
